Helianthus, or how we like to call it around here…. Sunflower. The sunflower is the state flower of Kansas. The prarie tribes Indians selectively bred sunflowers over the decades and centuries to grow larger and larger sunflowers for their seeds. They created the sunflower as we know it today with the large heads and thousands of seeds.
